Wrong-Way Drunk Driver Causes Head-On Crash on I-75
Michigan State Police are investigating a wrong-way crash that left three people injured early Saturday morning on I-75 near the Detroit-Hamtramck border.
The crash happened around 5:00 a.m. on northbound I-75 at Holbrook after troopers received multiple calls about a Dodge Durango traveling southbound in the northbound lanes. Moments later, a head-on collision was reported.
When troopers arrived, they found a Subaru with both occupants trapped inside. The 26-year-old driver from Detroit was taken to a local hospital with broken bones and possible internal injuries. The 65-year-old passenger, also from Detroit, was hospitalized with internal injuries.
The 38-year-old male driver of the Durango was transported to a local hospital for head injuries.
“The investigation is continuing into this crash and alcohol appears to be a factor,” said F/Lt. Mike Shaw. “The freeway was closed for approximately four hours for clean up. I want to remind drivers to not get behind the wheel impaired. There are so many other ways to get around.”
